Honor Blows

This gets complicated so pay attention at the beginning. Now. Orestes loves Hermione, but she couldn’t care, she’s in love with Pyrrhis. Pyrrhis is cold on Hermione, since he’s carrying a torch for Andromache, Hector’s widow. That’s pretty straightforward.

Now, Andromache and Hector had a kid, and there are people who are a little leery of the blood of Hector, so they get together and demand that Pyrrhis kill the brat. Well, Pyrrhis is bearish on that idea, figuring, rightly enough, that Andromache won’t be exactly dancing at the idea of her son being murdered. Which of course is the case. But Pyrrhis isn’t one to let an opportunity slip by, so he offers, out of the goodness of his heart, to marry Andromache and adopt Hector’s son as his own, and put everyone on a solid footing.

All well and good except that Andromache is still pining for Hector, even though he’s been dead for five years at this point.
